Responsibilities

  • Recognized by clients as an Industry expert and familiar with the applicable NERC/FERC guidelines.
  • Plays a critical role in establishing technical direction and philosophy for Qualus organization and must possess high technical competence and have the recognition of peers within the company and industry.
  • Proficient with power flow software such as TARA, PSSE, and/or Powerworld.
  • Proficient in performing Generator Interconnection Studies and evaluating Transmission Service Requests.
  • Performs power flow and short circuit studies.
  • Effectively simulate and analyze the performance of the client’s transmission and generation systems and their limitations and strengths under normal and emergency operations.
  • Provides leadership by assigning and reviewing projects or job tasks and mentoring of less experienced consultant engineers.
  • Delegating, planning, prioritizing, and reviewing the work of the other consultants will be critical.
  • Must be able to justify strategy, analyses, and recommendations orally and through documentation and data to audiences of Transmission Owners and possibly their transmission customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (not engineering technology program) from an ABET accredited program. A master’s degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S engineering degree.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years engineering experience with emphasis in power system analysis, modeling, and protection.
  • Experience in performing power flow studies to determine transmission thermal and voltage constraints as well as transfer capability.
  • Experience in performing short circuit studies to determine fault current levels and system strength.
  • Professional Engineering registration required. Professional Engineering registration in the working state a plus.
  • Knowledge of power system analysis and modeling techniques.
  • Must have strong analytical and computer skills.
  • Must have strong written and speaking skills.
