The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for overseeing all tax aspects of the company including but not limited to sales and use tax compliance, 1099 reporting and unclaimed property compliance, supporting outside CPA with income and personal property tax filings as well as providing support to the finance and accounting team. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the sales and use tax compliance process for the company, including the preparation and filing of all necessary returns.
  • Stay up to date on the latest tax laws and regulations and provide recommendations to management on how to maintain compliance.
  • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate reporting of sales and use tax in financial statements.
  • Perform research and provide recommendations on sales and use tax implications of new business activities.
  • Manage tax authority inquires and notices as well as assist resolving tax issues.
  • Manage sales tax audits defense and negotiations with state and local tax authorities.
  • Work with technology and process improvement teams to automate sales and use tax processes and procedures.
  • Work with outside CPA to provide information needed for personal property tax returns as well as federal, state, and local income tax returns.
  • Assess need to file unclaimed property reports and prepare any filings deemed necessary.
  • Keep records necessary to comply with 1099 reporting requirements current as well as manage the filing process at year end.
  • Other task as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in sales and use tax compliance, with a strong understanding of multi-state tax regulations.
  • Strong technical skills in sales and use tax compliance and comprehensive knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Experience with OneSource compliance software and Microsoft Excel is preferred.
