Overview

POWER YOUR FUTURE WITH QUALUS as a Senior Electrical Engineer. The Senior Engineer position is responsible for overseeing and executing power systems study and design projects from start to finish in compliance with industry and company standard practices and procedures. The Senior Engineer will be involved in job/project estimation, initiation, planning, execution, final delivery, and closeout. Additional responsibilities include providing technical and sales support to others inside the company.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical insight regarding substation systems and electrical power systems.
  • Medium and low voltage electrical design consisting of, but not limited to: Outdoor substations, unit substations, power transformers, protection and control schemes, power generation, circuit breaker replacements, relay replacements, brownfield, and greenfield EPC projects.
  • Develop protective relays setting as needed.
  • Work on various job sites to assist with commissioning of power equipment and control system.
  • Develop engineering drawings, documentations, and bill of materials for electrical projects.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines within and externa to company to develop engineering plans.
  • Review and gather field data as needed to perform, coordination, short circuit analysis, and arc flash studies utilizing analysis software such as PTW, ETAP, EasyPower, etc.
  • Works with CAD staff to develop and/or update client electrical drawings including one lines, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Works directly with clients and communicates client needs to project team members.
  • Consults and coordinates as necessary to utilize suppliers with the capabilities to meet material and equipment needs for shop and field activities. Responsible for expediting and resolving issues regarding material and equipment availability.
  • Effectively communicates with other departments to assure activities are properly coordinated and adhering to budgets.
  • Participates in Project Kickoff meetings to discuss in detail work scope, project specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements with project team.
  • Oversees all required documentation and records related to assigned projects on file in the proper location for reference and backup.
  • Up to 30% travel may be required for training and visiting customer job sites.
  • Remains current on and participates in all safety and technical training as required.
  • Adheres to all company, industry and client safety protocols and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related from an ABET accredited institution, preferred with a focus on power systems.
  • 4+ years of design engineering or field testing and commissioning experience on electrical power distribution equipment, protection, and control schemes, and/or electrical utility equipment. 
  • Experience developing relay protective setpoints and settings files.
  • Working knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, NESC, and other applicable codes and standards in the design of substations and industrial power distribution.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Exposure to using power systems modeling software such as ETAP, SKM, and/or EasyPower.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively discuss technical recommendations with customers.
  • Ability to work independently, accurately, and with a high attention to detail.
