Position Overview

The Qualus Transmission Line Engineering Manager is responsible for managing, supporting, and providing direction for the Qualus transmission line engineering, designer and drafting staff and other supporting team members. This position will support the Qualus development of our transmission line team and will play a key role in the future growth of this team within the overall Qualus company.  

 

Our focus is specific to the electric grid space with focus on utility, renewable energy and utility development clients; we pride ourselves in providing high quality engineering. 

Responsibilities

  • The leader we are seeking must have excellent communication skills to manage the transmission line team which consists of physical offices as well as remote staff. 
  • The leader will be responsible for managing the transmission line P&L and will have direct collaborative involvement with client development and management.  
  • Participate or oversee recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining transmission line staff; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Work with each direct report to develop and guide career development plans that will inspire employees to achieve their best results and provide a roadmap to their advancement.
  • Develop proposals and train staff on proposal development to ensure a strong responsiveness to RFPs. Ensure that each proposal is responsive to the scope of work, while ensuring that Qualus goals and legal requirements are met.
  • Oversee project deliverables to ensure that high standards of quality are achieved and that the required quality control is implemented within the transmission line engineering project team.
  • Perform as a problem solver of staff and clients matters.
  • Experience with both utilities and developers with preferred experience specific to utility facilities.
  • Technically guide (and be competent with) transmission line engineering in the preparation of project documents and drawings, PLS CADD modeling, full range of voltages, a wide range of foundation types, and full construction packages includes elements such as stringing and sag charts and staking sheets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Eight to ten or more years of utility engineering experience is desired.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration preferred, with licensing in California ultimately required if not already obtained
  • Industry recognized or plans to gain industry recognition through conferences and Professional industry organizations.
  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.
  • Must have strong transmission line engineering experience.
  • Must have strong analytical and computer skills.
  • Must have strong written and verbal skills.
  • Must be a proven leader.
  • Strong collaborative nature with ability to think creatively and “out of the box”.
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of support personnel.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and care.
  • Highly motivated "self-starter".
  • Clear and proven decision-making ability.
  • Proven multitasking skills.
